EIF delegation meeting with KEPA’s Administrative Committee

On Monday, May 9th, 2016,  Business and Cultural Development Centre's (KEPA) Chairman and Board of Directors members had a meeting with the delegation of the European Investment Fund (EIF) who are visiting Thessaloniki, in KEPA's premises.
During the meeting, the participants discussed about microcredit issues, the EIF's role in provision of technical assistance in microcredit providers and the financial instruments that EIF provides to SMEs.

KEPA's Chairman, Mr. Nikos Efthymiadis presented the organisation's identity and activities, along with the initiative it has taken for the promotion of the microcredit scheme in Greece. Mr. Efthymiadis also mentioned the training that KEPA's executives have recieved through Jasmine Initiative, towards achieving the goal of creating a microcredit institution for Greek SMEs.

Afterwards, the currently under implementation "microSTARS" project was presented. The project it aims at the pilot operation of two Business Development Centers, one in Thessaloniki and one in Kilkis. The two centres will support SMEs and startups in parallel with the microloans provision from the Network Cooparative Banks (SESnet) , with which KEPA signed a Memorandum.

Closing his presentation, Mr. Efthymiadis analyzed KEPA's proposals for formulating an appropriate institutional framework for the provision of microcredit in Greece, from non-banking institutions.

Those proposals, along with the rest of KEPA's activitiesfound a positive response from EIF's members, who from their side, presented their technical assistance procedures to authorities and  organisations along with the fund provision for microcredit use, directly to banks or non-banking institutions. Both sides agreed to work on future cooperation regarding the beforementioned issues.

Useful intervention during the conversation were also made by Mr. Athanasios Savvakis - President of FING, Mr. Kyriakos Loufakis - President of SEVE, while Mr. Thomas-Fokion Algianakoglou and Mr. Vasilis Thomaidis also actively participated in the conversation.
Technical support to KEPA's Board of Directors was provided by Mr. Spyros Skotidas, Director General and Mr. Neoklis Stamkos, Head of Microcredit Department.
EIF's delegation was formed by Mr. Pier Luigi Gilibert - Chief Executive, Mr. Hubert Cottogni - Mandate Management, Mr. Ioannis Tsakiris - Mandate Management, and Mr. Jose Romano - Representative of EIF in Greece.
